Men’s Soccer shuts out York, 1-0

Salisbury, Md.- The Salisbury University men's soccer team snapped their four game losing streak and earned a 1-0 shutout victory over the York Spartans on Wednesday in Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) action. 

THE RUNDOWN 

  • Final: Salisbury 1, York 0 

  • Records: Salisbury (7-6-1, 2-4 CAC) | York (Pa.) (7-5-2, 3-3 CAC) 

  • Location: Sea Gull Stadium- Salisbury, Md.

     

 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • York had a scoring opportunity in the 18th minute, when Barak Amige took a shot just outside of the box, but his shot sailed high of the Salisbury goal.  

  • The first half consisted of even, back-and-forth action between the Spartans and Sea Gulls. The Sea Gulls tallied one more shot than the Spartans, 6-5.  

  • After a goal kick, Cullen Myers fielded the ball and got past the Spartan defense. He broke free past the York keeper and put away Salisbury's lone goal in the 56th minute. 

  • The Spartans would keep chipping away to force overtime. Ethan Lloyd would attempt a shot in the 85th minute.   

  • The Spartans had back-to-back corner kicks in final seconds of the game, but the Salisbury defense held strong to seal the clean sheet. 

GAME NOTES 

  • Salisbury had the 12-9 shot advantage over York. 

  • The Sea Gulls and Spartans were tied for corner kick attempts with three 

  • Gabe Dunn recorded five saves in goal for the Sea Gulls. 

  • Ryan Spadin and Cullen Myers led Salisbury with three shots, two of which on goal.   

  • Cullen Myers netted his fourth goal of the season. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE 

  • Myers has scored in back-to-back games for Salisbury.

  • Salisbury is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 19 when they host St. Mary's in a CAC contest.
