Swimming falls in road meet against Washington

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Salisbury University men's and women's swimming teams fell Wednesday night at Washington (Md.) College, as the men scored 124-76 and the women finished 127-78.


The men's squad grabbed three top finishes for the meet in the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard freestyle relay. Sophomore Will Gough recorded a time of 21.79 in the 50 freestyle to give him the first-place finish and nine points for the Sea Gulls.

In the 100 breaststroke, the Sea Gulls gathered 16 points taking the top three finishes by freshman Kevin Drury and sophomores Jake Blazer and Chris Ek, in that order.

The final event of the meet was the 200 freestyle relay that Salisbury recorded 15 points in, claiming the top three spots led by freshman Scott Schirmer, junior Rich Ambrose, Gough, and senior James Gough with a time of 1:29.67.


The women's squad was led by freshman Victoria Radcliffe, recording two top finishes in the meet. In the 200-yard freestyle, Radcliffe grabbed an early half-second lead and held it all the way to the finish, claiming nine points with her 1:58.64 time. Four events later in the 200-yard IM, the Ellicott City, Md., native posted a 2:15.18 time to grab her second first-place finish on the day, totaling 18 points in her individual events.

Radcliffe was joined by teammates Maggie Deering, Layne Gable and Nicki Schult in the first race of the meet, recording a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:02.59. Schult added a third-place finish in the 200 IM (2:22.09) to record three points for the Sea Gulls.

Sophomore Andria Moyer came up just short in the 50-yard freestyle, falling by half of a second with a time of 27.02 to take second place and four points.

Both teams are back in action on Saturday, Nov. 9, as they travel to Arlington, Va., for a conference clash with the Saints of Marymount (Va.) University. The meet is set to begin at 2 p.m.
