Read named CAC Player of the Week

YORK, Pa. - The Capital Athletic Conference announced its weekly awards on Monday and Salisbury University junior second baseman Carly Read was named the league's Softball Player of the week. This is the second time this season an SU player has been named the Player of the week.

Read helped the Sea Gulls claim their 17th CAC championship title, 9-1, after Frostburg State University took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. The Catonsville, Md., native hit her first home run of the year, a go-ahead two-run blast, against the Bobcats giving Salisbury the lead 2-1. The junior went 2-for-2 at the plate, with a double, a walk, and three RBIs.

With the award four different Sea Gulls have earned a weekly honor from the CAC. Senior Erika Brittingham and freshman Rachel Johnson have each claimed the Pitcher of the Week honors twice, while junior shortstop Hannah Mills was named Player of the Week in March.

With the win, Salisbury claimed the CAC's automatic bid into the NCAA tournament. The Gulls will now wait to see where they will be headed to begin their journey towards an NCAA crown.
