Softball back to No. 17 in NFCA Division III top 25 poll

STARKVILLE, Miss. - The Salisbury University softball team moved up one spot in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III top 25 poll, released on Wednesday.

After claiming its 17th Capital Athletic Conference championship against Frostburg State University, 9-1, Salisbury saw nine players named to the All-CAC first and second team. The Sea Gulls also claimed the league's Player of the Year, in senior pitcher Erika Brittingham, and Coach of the Year in Head Coach Margie Knight along with picking up the league's Player of the Week award in second baseman Carly Read.

The Sea Gulls (35-5) now sit at No. 17 with 68 points while the top-five teams in the nation remain unchanged.

Top-ranked Emory College (199 points) garnered seven first-place votes while Eastern Connecticut State University collected one first-place vote and 190 points. Linfield College (182), Luther College (175) and Pacific Lutheran University (174) round out the top-five teams, respectively.

Salisbury has completed its regular season schedule and now awaits placement in the NCAA tournament field to see where it will head for regional action.
