STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Salisbury University softball team finishes out the regular season as the No. 18 team in the nation as the National Fastpitch Coaches Association released the Division III top 25 poll on Wednesday.
The Sea Gulls (35-5) are headed into the NCAA Division III Softball Championship with a 25-game winning streak, having last defeated Frostburg State University, 9-1, to claim the programs 17th Capital Athletic Conference championship and the conference's automatic bid into the tournament. Salisbury enters the Newport News, Va., regional as the third seed and is one of three teams that are included in the NFCA Division III top 25 poll.
No. 1 Emory College (197 points) will join the Sea Gulls (71 points) at the Newport News, Va., regional along with host No. 10 Christopher Newport University, 120 points.
Second-ranked Eastern Connecticut State University (192 points) and No. 3 Linfield College, with 185 points, stay put while both Pacific Lutheran University (176 points) and Central (Iowa) College (165 points) move up one spot to claim fourth and fifth, respectively.
Salisbury will face Ferrum College in its first game of NCAA tournament action on Thursday, May 10. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
