YORK, Pa. – Senior catcher Michelle Gravdahl and sophomore pitcher Rachel Johnson were tabbed the Capital Athletic Conference softball athletes of the week after the No. 7 Salisbury University softball team collected four victories last week.
Gravdahl was named the Co-CAC Softball Player of Week, sharing the award with Caitlin Lovend from Frostburg State University, after going 8-for-13 with a double and a pair of three-run homers. The senior brought in seven runs and scored six times to figure in 13 of SU's 30 runs. Gravdahl ended the week hitting .615 with a slugging percentage of 1.154.
Johnson's performance in the circle earned the Preston, Md., native her fifth CAC Pitcher of the Week award. The sophomore picked up three wins in her three appearances, pitching two complete-games and earning one in relief. Johnson struck out 15 batters in game one against Washington (Md.) College to set a new career-high in strikeouts. In her three appearances, the sophomore pitched 17 innings in which she allowed 10 hits, two walks, and fanned 33 opponents.
This marks the second-consecutive week that the Sea Gulls have earned both CAC awards.
The Sea Gulls will travel up Route 13 to take on CAC foe Wesley College on Wednesday, April 10 before then traveling to Washington, D.C. for their final regular-season road contest against the Catholic University of America.
