YORK, Pa. – The Capital Athletic Conference awarded its first softball awards of the season on Wednesday and Salisbury University sophomore Kim Dorsey and junior Rachel Johnson earned CAC Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.
The pair led the Sea Gulls to a perfect start, through four games, at the Triangle Classic in North Carolina to open the season.
Dorsey blasted three home runs in the four games, batting .462 for the week. The Baltimore native reached base at a .533 percent clip and slugged 1.231 for the week while driving in eight runs and scoring six times.
Johnson pitched in three of the four games, earning two wins and a save, while striking out 23 in 11 2/3 innings. The Preston, Md., native finished her weekend by twirling a two-hit complete-game shutout against Roanoke College.
Johnson, Dorsey and the Sea Gulls will return to action this weekend, taking on Rutgers University-Newark, Wilkes University and Lynchburg College at the SU Softball Field.
