YORK, Pa. - The Capital Athletic Conference selected Salisbury University sophomore Paige Knussman and junior Rachel Johnson as Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, the organization announced on Monday.
The pair led the Sea Gulls to a dominating doubleheader performance this past Thursday against No. 23 Washington College, winning game one 11-2, in six innings, and game two 9-3, to improve their record to 17-1.
Knussman batted .778 with seven RBIs and two home runs in the doubleheader sweep. The Easton, Md., native went 4-for-5 at the plate in the opener and 3-for-4 in the second game, while posting a 1.667 slugging percentage for the week.
Johnson went 2-0 after pitching in both games of the doubleheader; she allowed only eight hits and one unearned run in the 11 1/3 innings, striking out 16 batters, including 11 in the first game. This is the Preston, Md., native's fourth time being named CAC Pitcher of the Week this season.
