YORK, Pa. – The Capital Athletic Conference announced the 2015 preseason coaches' poll for softball, and Salisbury University has been selected by the league's coaches as the top team in the conference, receiving the maximum seven first-place votes.
Salisbury received the maximum of 49 points, while Christopher Newport University collected the final first-place vote and 43 points, while Frostburg State University (34 points), York College of Pennsylvania (30) and the University of Mary Washington (27) round out the top-five teams.
Wesley College (18 points), Penn State University-Harrisburg (16) and Southern Virginia University (7) represent the final three teams in the CAC preseason poll.
Salisbury, which advanced to the championship series at the NCAA Division III National Championship in 2014, opens this year as the No. 2-ranked team in the nation.
The Sea Gulls are scheduled to open the 2015 season next weekend, February 28-March 1, at the Grand Slam Softball Classic in North Carolina.
