LOUISVILLE – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association has released its final coaches' poll of the year, and the Salisbury University softball team closes 2015 as the No. 3 team in the country.
The Sea Gulls spent the entire year in the top 10 in the poll, sitting at No. 2 for more than half of the year before heading to the postseason ranked No. 4.
Salisbury rolled through the first two weeks of NCAA tournament play with a 5-0 mark to be crowned Salisbury, Maryland regional and super regional champions and advancing to the NCAA championship for the ninth time in program history. Salisbury was 2-2 in championship play, advancing to the semifinal day of competition.
The Sea Gulls (37-8) collected 184 points in the final poll, eight behind No. 2 University of Texas-Tyler, which finished runner up to national champion No. 1 Tufts University. The Jumbos picked up all eight first-place votes and 200 points.
Linfield College (176 points) and East Texas Baptist University (168 points) round out the final top five.
