YORK, Pa. – The Capital Athletic Conference announced its preseason coaches' poll for softball, and Salisbury University has been picked to finish second in the conference.
Salisbury, currently ranked No. 2 in the nation, received three first-place votes and 45 points, just two points behind No. 12 Christopher Newport University, which earned five first-place votes and 47 points to take the top spot in the poll.
Frostburg State University, with 37 points, and the University of Mary Washington, gaining 29 points, round out the top four.
York College of Pennsylvania (26 points), Wesley College (18 points), Penn State University-Harrisburg (15 points), and Southern Virginia University (eight points) are the remaining teams in the poll.
Salisbury is coming off a 2015 season in which the Sea Gulls went 37-8 and made a run to the NCAA Division III Softball Championship, as one of the final four teams left in the tournament.
The Sea Gulls are in action this weekend, taking on two ranked opponents as part of their four-game schedule at the Grand Slam Tournament in Cary, North Carolina. Salisbury faces Roanoke College and Salem College on Saturday, February 27, before taking on No. 9 Rowan University and No. 18 Emory University on Sunday, February 28.
