Dorsey, Simpson named to final 10 for NFCA Player of the Year

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association narrowed its list for the best player in Division III softball to 10 names and Salisbury University is the only team to account for two names of the remaining individuals for the inaugural Schutt Sports/NFCA Player of the Year.

Seniors Kim Dorsey and Molly Simpson, two of the best hitters in the nation, remain in the running for the award.

Dorsey led the team in 2016 and ranks fourth in the nation with 56 runs batted in, while batting a team-best .473 on the year. She hit safely in 36 of the team's 43 games this year, including a 6-for-15 showing with two runs scored and three driven in during the NCAA regional. Dorsey was a first-team All-Capital Athletic Conference pick, helping the team to its 19th CAC title, and was also named a first-team All-Atlantic Region selection by the NFCA.

Simpson started every game this season at second base, and saw her bat come alive in the second half of the season to lead the team with 14 home runs, which currently ranks fourth in the nation. Simpson batted .444 on the year and had 19 multi-hit games in 2016. She belted 12 doubles to go with a pair of triples to rank second on the team with a .861 slugging percentage. She was also named to the all-region team and was the CAC's Player of the Year.

The field of players will be narrowed to three finalists next week and the inaugural Player of the Year will be named following the conclusion of the NCAA tournament.
