Lord came home to SU after 12 seasons as the head softball coach at Washington College. Lord turned a program around that had only four winning seasons and one Centennial Conference Tournament appearance in their previous 24 seasons to a perennial contender in the Centennial. A three-time Centennial Conference Coach of the Year, Lord made seven trips to the Centennial Tournament including a historic 2013 season for the Shorewomen.
The 2013 season brought the Shorewomen their first Centennial Conference Championship and their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament with a program-record of 27 wins. The 2013 team became the first Washington College women's team to win an NCAA Tournament game.
Playing Career
Lord was one of the most dominant pitchers in all of Division III softball during the four years she donned the maroon and gold. She was a four-time All-American, four-time All-Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) First Team selection, four CAC Championships, 2003 CAC Rookie of the Year and three-time CAC Player of the Year winning the award from 2004-06. She holds the SU all-time pitching wins and strikeout record with 105 wins and 1,096 strikeouts. When she ended her career in 2006, she finished third in Division III in career strikeouts and tied for fourth in career wins.
She began her coaching career as an assistant under Coach Knight in 2007 at the end of her playing career and spent two seasons on staff as the pitching coach, coordinating practices and recruiting.
In 2007, Lord became the fifth person in school history to have their jersey retired as her number 14 hangs in the hallway of Maggs Physical Activities Center. She was inducted into the SU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2017.
