YORK, Pa. – Junior Nicole Sisco led a group of three Sea Gulls in double figures with 19 points off the bench but the Salisbury University women's basketball team fell to York (Pa.) College, 70-56, on Saturday.
Sisco shot 8-of-14 from the field with eight rebounds and three steals for SU (7-6, 6-2 CAC), which saw its two-game winning streak end. Freshman Anna Hackett and junior Katie McGahagan chipped in with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Salisbury used a 15-8 run in the final 7:33 of the first half to close to within 34-28 at the break. The Sea Gulls' spurt started when Sisco converted a layup and Hackett knocked down a jumper at the 6:53 mark to cut the deficit to 26-17. York's Aja Wallpher and Brittany Hicks then combined for a quick four points for a 30-17 lead with 5:42 to play.
The Gulls tallied 11 of the next 13 points, including six from former Spartan, junior Cinthia Ruiz.
Sisco pulled SU to within four points twice early in the second half – with a layup on the first possession of the half and a jumper at the 17:35 mark – but the Spartans received a three-pointer from Hicks to lengthen the lead to 39-32 with 17:07 remaining.
April Sparkman hit a layup for a 46-36 edge with 13:38 to go to regain a double-figure lead. Hackett then had a jumper to cut it to a 52-45 midway through the half, but Salisbury could get no closer.
The win gives York (12-3, 6-1) sole possession of second place in the CAC standings. Sparkman registered a game-high 21 points while Hicks and Kristin Haley each had double-doubles with 11 points and 10 rebounds and 12 points and 11 boards, respectively.
SU travels to play Delaware Valley College Monday at 6 p.m.
