FROSTBURG, Md. – Junior Nicole Sisco scored 16 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for her seventh career double-double, leading the Salisbury University women's basketball team past Frostburg State University, 66-52, in Capital Athletic Conference action at Bobcat Arena on Saturday.
Sisco shot 6-for-10 from the floor and 4-of-5 from the free-throw line with one assist and one steal. Classmate Katie McGahagan scored a game-high 21 points and added seven rebounds and one steal for Salisbury (13-9, 10-4 CAC).
The victory gives SU double-digit wins in conference for the first time since the 2002-03 season when the Sea Gulls went 13-1 en route a 23-5 overall mark and berth in the league championship game.
Frostburg State (5-18, 3-11) opened the game with four straight points but Salisbury responded with the next nine to take the lead for good. Four players scored in the run as senior Meghan Dunn started things with a jump shot just over two minutes in and McGahagan knocked down two free throws to tie the game at the 17:33 mark. Senior KC Curran hit a three-pointer with 16:51 left and freshman Anna Hackett had a jumper with 15:39 remaining.
Hackett finished with 10 points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal.
The Sea Gulls used another extended run to stretch the lead to 21-10 with 9:06 left in the half. Sisco had four of the eight points in the stretch.
Salisbury closed the half on a 20-10 run to take a 41-20 lead into the break.
Sisco completed a three-point play one minute into the second half to make it a 44-23 game. Junior Cinthia Ruiz then drained a three for SU's largest lead of the day, 51-27, with 15:25 to play.
The Bobcats reduced the lead to 65-52 when Elaina Hummel hit a layup with two minutes left but that was as close as they got the rest of the game.
Hummel led FSU with 14 points while Meische Cox had a team-best seven rebounds.
SU returns home to host Hood College on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
