YORK, Pa. – Salisbury University freshman Anna Hackett has been named CAC Women's Basketball Rookie of the Year and an All-CAC Second Team selection, the league announced on Tuesday.
Hackett is the first All-CAC player for the Sea Gulls since the 2007-08 season when current SU men's basketball head coach Josh Merkel's sister, Monica Merkel, garnered first-team honors. Hackett is also just the third CAC Rookie of the Year in women's basketball at Salisbury and first since the 2001-02 season.
Hackett, a 5-foot-5 guard from Germantown, Md., finished in the top 10 in nine different statistical categories. She was sixth in the conference in points per game (13.1), third in assists (120), assists per game (4.6), and field goals (137), eighth in field-goal percentage (44.3) and sixth in free-throw percentage (76).
Hackett reached double figures in scoring in 22 of her 26 games. She scored a career-high 23 in a 65-64 overtime win against Frostburg State University on Jan. 7. Hackett also collected her only double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds on Feb. 8 at St. Mary's (Md.) College, a 60-52 victory.
Hackett helped the Sea Gulls to their best season in 10 years as they earned the No. 3 seed in the CAC tournament and advanced to the semifinals. SU was 15-11 overall and 11-5 in league play under first-year Head Coach Kelly Lewandowski. It marked the first time SU won 10-plus games in the CAC since 2001-02.
