YORK, Pa. – The Salisbury University women's basketball team is nine days away from beginning its 2013-14 season, and the Sea Gulls have been voted No. 5 in the Capital Athletic Conference Women's Basketball preseason coaches' poll, the league announced on Thursday.
SU, 15-12 last season, received 49 points in the poll to finish 16 points ahead of No. 6 St. Mary's College of Maryland and round out the top-five teams in the conference. Christopher Newport University, one of three new members to the CAC, earned six first-place votes and 78 points to be pinned as the No. 1 team in the conference; the Captains were also voted No. 3 in the D3hoops.com preseason poll.
The rest of the top five consisted of No. 2 Marymount (Va.) University (three first-place votes and 70 points), No. 3 University of Mary Washington (one first-place vote and 66 points) and No. 4 York College of Pennsylvania (61 points).
