YORK, Pa. - Junior point guard Anna Hackett, of the Salisbury University women's basketball team, was named the Capital Athletic Conference women's basketball player of the week for the first week of the season, the league announced on Monday.
Hackett led the Sea Gulls in their first two games with 22.5 points, 5.5 assists and 4.5 steals per game, as SU went 1-1 in the Johns Hopkins tournament.
She led the team to victory against Johns Hopkins University on Saturday, 68-58, with 27 points and seven steals in the Gulls' first game of the season; the Germantown, Md., native also tied for the team lead with three assists. On Sunday, Hackett followed with another strong performance, as the Sea Gulls fell to Illinois Wesleyan University, 90-72. She finished second on the team with 18 points and led the team with eight assists.
In the two contests, Hackett shot 50 percent from the floor and 42.9 percent from behind the arc.
Hackett and Salisbury will be back in action on Tuesday night, as the Gulls travel to Virginia Wesleyan College for a game set for 7 p.m.
