Salisbury ranked No. 17 in USA Today, polls

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's basketball team moved up in both national rankings this week, coming in at No. 17 in the Top 25 poll and the USA Today NCAA Division III women's basketball coaches' poll, the organizations announced on Tuesday.

After a 2-0 week, during which the Sea Gulls defeated Christopher Newport University 89-72 on Wednesday and the University of Mary Washington 65-54 on Saturday, Salisbury earned 65 points in the USA Today poll to move up from No. 19 and 233 points in the rankings to move up from No. 18, last week.

The top-five spots of both polls saw some movement this week, as Thomas More College and University of St. Thomas moved up in each ranking to No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. Previous No. 1 Fairleigh Dickinson University, Florham fell to No. 3 in the USA Today Poll, while No. 4 Tufts University and No. 5 George Fox University remained unchanged.

In the poll, George Fox took over the No. 3 spot, while Fairleigh Dickinson moved to No. 4 and Tufts remained at No. 5.

The Sea Gulls now look forward to a mid-week contest against Wesley College on Wednesday, February 11; the opening tip is set for 6 p.m.
