INDIANAPOLIS – Not only is the No. 18 Salisbury University women's basketball team headed back to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2001-'02, but the Sea Gulls have been selected to host first- and second-round contests on March 6 and 7 at Maggs Physical Activities Center. SU will take on Bridgewater State University on Friday with the time to be announced.
The Gulls (25-2) earned a spot into the tournament with an automatic bid, after downing the University of Mary Washington in the Capital Athletic Conference title game this past weekend in a double-overtime battle. The Bears (16-10) stamped their ticket to the big dance winning their conference's automatic bid, downing Westfield State University, 60-57, in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference title game.
SU is making its sixth appearance in the national tournament, holding a 3-5 record all-time, while Bridgewater State is making its fifth-straight appearance.
Also making the trip to Salisbury for another first-round matchup is Stockton University (21-6) and McDaniel College (24-3).
The winner of both matchups will advance to Saturday's second-round game in Maggs.
