MINNEAPOLIS – The final regular-season poll was released by D3hoops.com and the Salisbury University women's basketball made the biggest jump in the country, going from No. 19 last week to No. 11 this week, the highest the Gulls have been ranked all year.
SU (25-2) earned the automatic bid into the national tournament last weekend, defeating the University of Mary Washington in the Capital Athletic Conference championship, 74-68, in double overtime. Senior Anna Hackett led all scorers with 26 points and six assists, while senior Melanie Mocniak posted 15 points.
The Gulls earned 309 points in this week's poll to make the jump. Salisbury remains the only team in both the men's and women's rankings to represent the CAC.
Still holding down the top-three spots in the poll are three undefeated programs with 27-0 records. Thomas More College, St. Thomas University and George Fox University round out the top of the ranking, in that order, as Thomas More claims 19 of the 25 first-place votes and the other two squads take three each.
Receiving the right to host the first two rounds of the NCAA tournament this upcoming weekend, the Sea Gulls open up their first appearance in 13 years with Bridgewater State University on Friday, March 6. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m., in Maggs Physical Activities Center.
