SALISBURY, Md. – With the Division III basketball season coming to a close this past weekend, D3hoops.com and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association released the final rankings for the 2014-15 year, and the Salisbury University women's basketball team made a move to the highest ranking it has seen all season.
Going the furthest any team has gone in the postseason in the 90 years of the program, Salisbury made a trip to the national tournament's Elite Eight before falling to Montclair State University. The Sea Gulls went 28-3 for the year, while tallying a 17-1 record in the Capital Athletic Conference, culminating in the team's first league title in 13 years.
The women set countless new program records this year including: most victories (28), best winning percentage (.903), most games played (31), most points scored (2,161), and most three-point field goals made (145).
In D3hoops.com's ranking, the Gulls broke into the top 10 with a placement at No. 9, receiving 406 points. In the final regular-season poll for WBCA, Salisbury was at No. 18, but with its great postseason play, it moved six spots to No. 12 to end the season.
Salisbury men's and women's basketball squads are the only teams for the CAC to make an appearance in the final rankings, as the men's team received votes in the D3hoops.com ranking.
