Getting to know Courtney Brigham

As part of Division III Week, we are giving our fans the opportunity to learn more about our student-athletes. Let's get to know Courtney Brigham...

Sport: Women's Basketball

Year: Freshman

Major: Psychology | Minoring in English and Sociology

Hometown: Walpole, Massachusetts

High School: Walpole High School

When did you start playing your sport and how did you get involved with it?

I began playing this sport when I was in the 2nd grade with big shoes to fill. My Dad, Uncle, and Aunt were all Division I athletes and began teaching me their ways at a young age. I could not begin competing however, until the 4th grade when I was fortunate enough to be placed on a travel team. Up until the 8th grade, I was always placed on the "B" team, I worked my butt off until a coach took a chance on me to be on the "A" team. From there I made the varsity and even started as a freshman, and whether I was in the game or on the bench I loved every moment and just knew I had to continue playing in college.

What is your greatest athletic accomplishment?

My greatest athletic achievement so far in my life occurred this past season when I had the first double-double of my career. It was an amazing feeling to live up to, maybe even exceed my own, as well as my coach's expectations. I also loved the support that I got from my teammates!

What is your favorite memory of playing at Salisbury University?

My favorite memory of playing at Salisbury University was the moments in the locker room before each game. We would dance and laugh and knew that no matter what happened during that game that we would always have each others' backs. I love that I have gained a second family through playing with this team.

Who is your biggest hero, athletically or otherwise, and why?

My biggest hero is my mom. She has shaped me into the motivated strong woman I am today. She has supported me through every obstacle and every tough decisions I have had to make. She is the reason I am here today, and she is my best friend.

What is your favorite part of being a student (not just a student-athlete) at Salisbury University?

The size of the University. I love how teachers are more involved and available to students because there is not an overflowing population of students; however there is enough students here to provide for superfluous amounts of activities and potential friends!

What do you like to do when you're not at practice, at a game or in class?

I enjoy writing, and relaxing. Oftentimes if it is nice out I will hang in the quad and play spike ball with my friends, or study in the grass.

What are your plans after graduation?

I plan to be a Child Psychologist or Psychiatrist, and hopefully someday a writer, and creator of a homeless citizen non-profit foundation.
