1998 Season Recap
The 1998 Salisbury State University women's soccer team put together another fine year as the Sea Gulls won their first five games to spearhead a charge that would eventually land them into the Capital Athletic Championship for the fifth consecutive year. The women had five players collect All-CAC laurels, one of which was also named to the All-Mid-Atlantic Region team. SU finished its season 13-6-1 and 4-2 in the CAC.
As previosuly mentioned, SU won its first five games of the year before dropping a 1-0 match to Messiah. SU rebounded with a hard fought victory over York (Pa.) before trading decisions with its next six opponents. The team ended the regular season with four wins and went on to win its first game of the CAC tournament. SU then dropped St. Mary's (Md.) 8-7 in penalty kicks before bowing out to Mary Washington, 1-0, in three overtimes.
Senior forward Courtney Urban and junior fullback Amy Gallagher led the Sea Gulls charge with a pair of All-CAC first team honors. Junior midfielder Dana Earl, freshman midfiedler Katie Rowles, freshman fullback Joy Mulholland, and sophomore goalie Amy Forbes all pick up All-CAC second team laurels. Gallagher was the lone Sea Gull named to the All-Mid-Atlantic team, where she was credited with a third team spot.
