The Salisbury University men’s and women’s swimming teams both earned victories over Virginia Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon, with the men picking up a 126-63 win and the women defeating the Marlins 123-80. Seven different men earned individual victories on the day, including a first-place finish from Richie Baker in the 200-meter freestyle as he touched the wall in a time of 1:59.71. Jeff Roman won a tightly-contested race in the 50-meter breaststroke, as he edged out teammate Josh Brown by the slightest of margins, clocking a time of 31.00 seconds. Six different women earned individual victories, led by Ryane Porter. Porter started the day with a victory in the 800-meter freestyle with a time of 10:30.22 and later placed first in the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 1:05.98. Ellen Berry also captured a first-place finish, with hers coming in the 50-meter backstroke as she recorded a time of 36.01 seconds. The Salisbury men’s and women’s swimming teams are off for nearly a month until they travel to McDaniel College for a 1 p.m. meet on Sunday, January 6.
