Women's tennis finishes fourth-match Texas sweep

TYLER, Texas – The Salisbury University women's tennis team finished a four-match sweep of its spring break trip to Texas with a 9-0 win against Centenary (La.) College, at the University of Texas-Tyler on Thursday morning.

The win is the eighth straight for the Sea Gulls (8-2) who have won their last seven matches by scores of either 8-1 of 9-0.

The Sea Gulls gave up just one game in three doubles wins as the teams of senior Jillian Poppe/freshman Natalie Savage and senior Elaina Iosue/sophomore Roxanne Alban picked up 8-0 wins at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively.

Junior Jessica Babyak and sophomore Katie Youlios picked up an 8-3 win at No. 3 to finish off the doubles wins.

The Sea Gulls continued to roll in the singles matches, with all six wins coming in straight sets, including three 6-0, 6-0 victories. Iosue at No. 3, Youlios at No. 5 and senior Victoria Handlin at No. 6 earned the shutout wins.

Poppe won the first set, 6-0, at No. 1 before finishing off Madelyn Mull, 6-3, in the second set. Alban also allowed lost just three games, claiming her No. 4 match, 6-1, 6-2 and Savage won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2.

Salisbury returns to action next Saturday, March 30, with three matches in Baltimore, taking on Goucher College, Frostburg State University and Juniata College.
