LA HABRA, Calif. – The Salisbury University women's tennis team picked up a 9-0 win in its first match of the Sea Gulls' spring break trip to California, topping Hope International University on Monday afternoon.
The Sea Gulls collected the opening three points of the day in doubles play, surrendering just one total game in the three wins. Junior Claudia Lohn and sophomore Megan Soderlund grabbed an 8-0 win at No. 2, while senior Megan Knapp and freshman Taylor Cooper matched the effort at No. 3 doubles.
Salisbury (8-1) saw similar success in singles play, with Soderlund leading the way at No. 3, grabbing a 6-0, 6-0 win. Knapp was good for a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 and Savage gave up just two games at No. 1, earning a 6-1, 6-1 win.
The final two singles wins came from Lohn at No. 2, taking a 6-2, 6-2 win, and sophomore Sage Cole, who picked up a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 5. Salisbury nabbed the final point with a win by default at No. 6 with Hope International (0-9) unable to put a player out for the match.
The Sea Gulls continue play in California on Wednesday, March 16 taking on Sewanee in a match slated to begin at 12 p.m., eastern time.
