Women's tennis rolls to 9-0 win against Stevenson

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's tennis team picked up its third 9-0 win of the season on Saturday, topping Stevenson University by that score at the Salisbury University Indoor Tennis Center.

The Sea Gulls jumped out to the three-point lead after doubles play with sophomore Kayla Allen and freshman Marina Kaiafas rolling to an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles while sophomores Annika Kezman and Julia Kwedi won 8-2 at No. 1.

Junior Shannon Hickman and freshman Ariana Leggio had the tightest doubles match at No. 2, winning 8-6.

The Sea Gulls had two 6-0, 6-0 wins in singles play, coming from Leggio at No. 4 and Kaiafas at No. 5. Hickman and Allen each won allowing their opponent just two games with Hickman winning 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 while Allen came out on top in a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 6.

Kezman, at No. 1, and Kwedi, at No. 2 singles each needed a tie breaker to get through their first set, 7-6, but still claimed their wins in straight sets. Kezman won 7-6 (7-1), 6-3 in the top spot while Kwedi was good for a 7-6 (7-0), 6-0 win.

Salisbury is back on the courts on Sunday morning, hosting Frostburg State University at 11 a.m., to begin Capital Athletic Conference play for the 2018 season.
