Cole earns two wins as women's tennis claims 8-1 victory on Senior Day

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's tennis team closed out the regular season with an 8-1 win on Senior Day against Harford Community College at the Salisbury University Tennis Center on Sunday.

Prior to the match, the team's lone senior Sage Cole was honored, and she delivered in her final home match, earning a point in both singles and doubles play without surrendering a game to her Harford opponents.

Cole first paired with Taylor Cooper for an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles to begin the day for the Sea Gulls (15-6) while Sydney Soto and Jordan Schaefer picked up an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles.

The only point of the day for the Fighting Owls (4-7) came at No. 1 doubles where Maria Rey and Kyning Tillinghast picked up an 8-3 win against Annika Kezman and Julia Kwedi.

Cooper picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 to begin singles play while Soto followed quickly with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 to put Salisbury's lead at 4-1. Fittingly, it was Cole that earned the win to seal the victory, with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 for the 5-1 advantage.

Shannon Hickman came up with a 6-1, 6-1 victory but the final two points were a battle for the Sea Gulls for Kezman at No. 1 and Kwedi at No. 2. Kezman was able to claim a 6-4, 6-4 win while Kwedi finished off the match with a 6-4, 7-5 win.

The Sea Gulls are in action next on Tuesday, May 1 when they begin play in the Capital Athletic Conference tournament. Salisbury is the No. 3 seed in the tournament and will travel to No. 2 seeded Christopher Newport University for the semifinal match.
