Women's tennis tops Southern Virginia, 7-2

BUENA VISTA, Va. – The Salisbury University women's tennis team remained perfect in Capital Athletic Conference play, winning at Southern Virginia University on Saturday afternoon, 7-2.

Salisbury (8-4, 4-0 CAC) swept the three doubles matches with junior Annika Kezman and sophomore Laura Brown picking up an 8-5 win at No. 1 before senior Taylor Cooper and freshman Sarah Dover finished off a win by the same score at No. 3.

Junior Jordan Schaefer and sophomore Sydney Soto made it a three-point lead with an 8-7 (7-2) win at No. 2.

Salisbury picked up the first two singles points to seal the team win with Brown earning a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 2 and Kezman picking up a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 1.

Cooper won the opening set of her No. 3 match, 6-0, and was tied in the second, 4-4, before being forced to retire due to injury.

Southern Virginia (11-3, 2-2 CAC) earned a second point with Morgan Blount topping Schaefer at No. 5 in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 10-6 and Salisbury claimed the final two matches with Soto winning at No. 4 by a 6-3, 6-4 score and Shannon Hickman winning at No. 6 by a 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) score.

Salisbury continues CAC play on Sunday, April 7 at Frostburg State University, with the match beginning at 11 a.m.
