DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its monthly cross country award winners and Salisbury University sophomore Heather Delaplaine and freshman Yanet Leul were named Division III South Female Runner and Rookie of the Month, respectively, for the month of October.
Delaplaine received monthly honors after placing among the top four finishers in each of the two races in October for which she was a participant. The sophomore finished second overall in the Don Cathcart Invitational 6k race hosted by Salisbury back on October 5 with a time of 21:57.6, and followed it up with a fourth-place finish at the Hood College Open 6k race on October 19 with a time of 22:41.4. Delaplaine has been named Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Runner of the Week twice in the month of October and three times overall in 2019.
Leul receives Rookie of the Month honors after finishing within the top-25 overall runners in both October races. The freshman finished 23rd overall in the Don Cathcart Invitational with a time of 23:30.6 and followed it up with a time of 23:57.3 to finish 12th overall at the Hood College Open.
The cross country teams will travel to Lehigh University on November 16 to take part in the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championships which are set to begin at 11 a.m.
