NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Salisbury University
volleyball team got off on the right foot against Christopher
Newport University before the Sea Gulls dropped three straight
games to the Captains to fall 3-1 on road Friday evening before a
crowd of 350.
The Sea Gulls (20-11) entered the match with a lot of momentum
having won six of the past seven matches. Salisbury rallied to win
the first game 30-28 behind strong serving from Savannah Tinsley.
The Captains (19-9) then reeled off three straight wins to close
out the four-game match; 30-28, 14-30, 20-30, 18-30. CNU's Sarah
Hunkele had 17 kills and Brittany Collins added 46 assists in the
win for the Captains.
Salisbury was led by sophomores Stacey Krebs and Lucy Rushing
who hammered home 10 kills each. Freshman Gabby Long led all Sea
Gulls with 21 digs and Tinsley served up four service aces.
The Sea Gulls (5-1 CAC) now turn their sights on a Capital
Athletic Conference road showdown with Marymount University (19-6,
6-0 CAC) at 7 p.m., Tuesday, October 24, in Arlington, Va. The
regular-season CAC title hangs in the balance.
