Box Score SALISBURY, Md. - No ghosts, goblins or Mary
Washington Eagles could ruin Salisbury University's volleyball
team's Halloween Party tonight at the Maggs Center in the opening
round of the 2006 Capital Athletic Conference tournament.
The second-seeded Sea Gulls (22-12) took down the seventh-seeded
Eagles, 3-0, by the score of 30-18, 30-24, 30-18. Salisbury will
now host third-seed Gallaudet University at 7 p.m., November 2. The
Bison defeated York (Pa.) College 3-0 on Tuesday evening.
Salisbury senior Abbey Petrecca recorded a
double-double with 29 assists and 13 digs while sophomore
Jaime Marzocchi had a team-high 25 digs. Sophomore
Stacey Krebs hammered home a team best 19 kills
and served up four aces. Freshman Nicole
Massarelli made four blocks in the victory.
The second game was the closes of the three as Mary Washington
rallied from 11 points down to pull the game to within four down
the stretch. Krebs recorded two kills to clinch the game for the
Gulls, 30-24.
In the third game there were four ties before SU pulled away
behind the play of its front line. The Sea Gulls took advantage of
the Eagle miss communication and errors.
The first game went rather quickly as the Gulls led from start
to finish.
Salisbury now faces Gallaudet, a team that the Gulls beat 3-2
the last time the two met in the Maggs Center on September 26. The
Bison had defeated the Gulls, three days prior, with a 3-1 victory
in the Salisbury Invitational.
