SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University
volleyball team finished the first day of the 2006 Salisbury
Invitational Volleyball Tournament with a split of the two matches
it played.
Salisbury (10-6) dropped the nightcap to Gallaudet University,
3-1 (30-27, 21-30, 27-30, 34-36), but defeated The Richard Stockton
College of New Jersey, 3-1 (30-24, 30-26, 28-30, 30-20) in the
first match of the tournament.
The Sea Gulls were led by some familiar faces on the court.
Senior Abbey Petrecca recorded 44 assists and
sophomore Jaime Marzocchi had 31 digs against the
Bison from Gallaudet (10-3). Sophomores Stacey
Krebs (13 kills) and Lucy Rushing (11
kills) led the offense for SU in the second match.
Salisbury enjoyed an early victory over the Osprey as the Gulls
jumped out to an early lead and sealed the match with an impressive
showing in the fourth game.
Krebs dominated the Osprey (8-5) with 18 kills while Petrecca
contributed 47 assists for the Gulls. Marzocchi tallied 35 digs and
five service aces, both team highs, to add to her big night.
The second day of the 2006 Salisbury Invitational Volleyball
Tournament gets underway at 10 a.m., Saturday, September 23 at the
Maggs Center as Richard Stockton faces Gallaudet. The complete
