MONTCLAIR, N.J. - The Salisbury University
football continued its struggles as it fell to the Red Hawks of
Montclair State University, 27-3, on Saturday afternoon in front of
1,649 people at Sprague Field.
The Sea Gulls (1-3) got off to a quick start, as they took their
second drive 69-yards on 12 plays, as junior Brendan
Kincaid kicked a 28-yard field goals with 5:57 left in the
first quarter. Salisbury wouldn't score the rest of the game as
Montclair State (2-1) came back to tack on 27 unanswered points to
earn the victory.
The Red Hawks owned the time possession battle 36:27 for the
game and a dominate 19:59 in the second half compared to the Sea
Gulls 23:33 for the game and only 3:20 for the third quarter.
Montclair quarterback Michael Jump completed 17-of-22 for 145
yards and two touchdowns while running back Ryan McCoach gained 176
yards on 32 rushes and scored two touchdowns, lead the way for the
Red Hawks.

Lankford (2-for-2 for eight yards) and sophomore
Ronnie Curley (2-for-8 for 14 yards) combined for
22 passing yards while the two were the Sea Gulls' leading rushers.
Curley ran for 93 yards on 12 rushes while Lankford ran the ball
twice for 34 yards.
Montclair State finished with 346 total yards of offense,
passing for 145 and rushing for 201, as Salisbury compiled 230
totals yards (208 rushing).
The Red Hawks answered the Sea Gulls score as MSU chewed up just
under seven minutes on a 78-yard, 13 play drive that ended with a
McCoach one-yard touchdown plunge, that put the Red Hawks up for
good, with 13:59 remaining in the first half.
Salisbury had a shot to score right before the half but Kincaid
missed a 46-yard field goal attempt and entered the half down, 7-3.
In the second half, MSU took the opening drive 81-yards on nine
plays that saw A.J. Letizia bring in a seven-yard pass from Jump
for the six-points. The extra-point attempted failed as the Red
Hawks led 13-3 with 9:36 left in the third quarter.
Montclair State took advantage of the Salisbury miscues and put
the game away with two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. McCoach
ran the ball in from nine-yards out at the 12:31 mark and Jump
connected with Rashon Walker for an 18-yard touchdown pass, seven
minutes later.
Salisbury will return to action next week, as they travel to
Newport News, Va., to take on the Apprentice School in an Atlantic
Central Football Conference game.
