SALISBURY, Md. - The top-ranked Juniata College
volleyball team went undefeated in the 2006 Salisbury Invitational
Volleyball Tournament here at the Maggs Center as the Eagles won
their four matches it played in the two-day tournament. Juniata
dropped its first game it played versus Gallaudet on Friday evening
then ripped off a 12-game winning streak to improve its record to
17-0 for the season.
The host Sea Gulls from Salisbury University defeated Catholic
University, 3-1, and lost to Juniata, 3-0, on Saturday. The night
before the Sea Gulls defeated Richard Stockton, 3-1, and lost to
Gallaudet, 3-1.
SU senior Abbey Petrecca was named the tournament's MVP as she
compiled 160 assists and 18 kills in four matches. Salisbury
sophomore Stacey Krebs joined Petrecca on the all-tournament team
along with Juniata's Amber Thomas and Beth Kozak; Richard
Stockton's Amanda Burkart; Catholic's Carey Anne Nassib and
Gallaudet's Tamijo Foronda.
Petrecca had 46 assists and seven kills against Catholic (8-9)
as the Sea Gulls won 30-28, 30-26, 20-30, 30-18. Krebs added 14
kills as she tallied 54 for the tournament.
In the second match, the Sea Gulls faced the top-ranked and
defending NCAA Division III national runner-up Eagles from Juniata.
SU couldn't get to the 20-point plateau against Juniata as the
Gulls lost in straight games 30-18, 30-19, 30-16.
Salisbury (11-7) will next host Gallaudet (12-3) at 7 p.m.,
Tuesday, September 26 as the Bison make a return trip to the Maggs
Center for a Capital Athletic Conference game.
