ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - Three days after they
took sole possession of first place in the Capital Athletic
Conference the Salisbury University men's basketball team fell to
St. Mary's College (Md.), 77-76, on the road.
Salisbury (9-5, 4-1 CAC) was led by senior Ray
Williams who scored a game-high 31 points. Sophomore
Ozi Menakaya continued his dominance in the paint
as he pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Sea Gulls led by as many as 14-points in the first half but
was only able to take a 40-38 lead into halftime.
The scoreboard saw six lead changes in the second half, the last
coming with 26 seconds left as SMC's (6-7, 1-4 CAC) Mike Smelkinson
hit a three-point field goal to give the Seahawks a 76-73 lead.
Williams hit a three-pointer as time expired, but it wasn't enough
as the Sea Gulls fell by one.
SMC was led by Alex Irmer who scored a team-high 20 points.
The Sea Gulls will next play Catholic University on Wednesday,
January 17 in a CAC game at the Maggs Center at 7:30 p.m.
