YORK, Pa. - The Salisbury University men's
basketball team fell, 84-74, to York College (Pa.) on Saturday
afternoon in front of a crowd of 890. The defeat was the fifth
straight Capital Athletic Conference loss for Salisbury and the
seventh in the last eight games overall.
The Sea Gulls (9-9, 4-5 CAC) never led in the second half and
trailed by as much as ten points but battled back to tie the game
at 64 with seven minutes left after a flurry of jumpers by senior
Segun Odumeru (15 points, four rebounds). The
Spartans (12-7, 6-4 CAC), powered by 30 points from junior forward
Chad McGowan, answered instantly with a 7-0 run and regained the
lead for good.
The Gulls were led by point guard Devin Jones
who poured in 21 points with 5-7 shooting from three-point range.
The Spartans had Joe Yeck and Nate Lankford score in double figures
to complement McGowan. The two York guards combined to go 5-7 from
downtown.
York held an advantage from the free throw line by going 9-10.
The Sea Gulls struggled from the charity stripe, shooting 6-15. The
Spartans piled up 23 assists on 32 field goals made.
SU split the season series with YCP as they won 93-81 at home on
December 2, but the Sea Gulls failed to complete the sweep.
Salisbury returns to the hardwood to host CAC opponent Goucher
on Wednesday, January 31 at 7:30 p.m. The Gulls hope to find the
winning formula that propelled them to a 4-0 start early in
conference play.
