WESTMINSTER, Md. - The Salisbury University
volleyball team finished the McDaniel Tournament at .500 with a 2-2
record over the two day tournament. The Sea Gulls split their two
matches on Saturday morning as they dropped their first match to
McDaniel but rebounded to sweep Marymount (Va.) in straight sets
for third place.
The Sea Gulls (22-8, 5-0 CAC) won the first two sets against the
Green Terror but fell 30-18, 30-28, 20-30, 25-30, 10-15. One day
after she tied the school record for digs in a game Gabby
Long broke the record with 40 digs in the contest.
Stacey Krebs had another solid performance with 24
kills and Rachel Downes had a double-double with
16 kills and 16 digs. Jaime Marzocchi recorded 55
assists and 18 digs while Melissa Stansbury had 16
kills. Long and Marzocchi were named to the All-Tournament
team.
In the second game of the afternoon the Sea Gulls breezed through
the Saints 30-22, 30-24, 30-22. Krebs had 15 kills, Long registered
17 digs and Marzocchi added 31 assists.
The Sea Gulls return to action, with first place in the Capital
Athletic Conference on the line, on Tuesday, October 16, as they
host St. Mary's (Md.) at 7 p.m.
