WASHINGTON, D.C.- Salisbury University, down 11
with 1:43 remaining, mounted a furious comeback that fell just
short against Capital Athletic Conference foe Catholic University
on Saturday. CUA held on for the 74-72 victory and handed SU its
ninth loss away from Salisbury this season. With the loss, the Sea
Gulls drop to 12-11 overall (7-7 CAC), and the Cardinals climb to
17-5 (9-5 CAC).
Segun Odumeru led the Sea Gulls with 17 points,
and Ray Williams added 16 with 14 of those coming
in the second half. Frank Gerald finished with ten
points and nine rebounds to pace Salisbury on the glass.
For the game, the Gulls shot only 35.7 percent, but Salisbury
limited turnovers and converted at the foul line to hang close. The
Cardinals struggled at the charity stripe as they shot a chilly
18-35 (51.4 percent).
Catholic had two players with double-doubles as Patrick Dwyer and
Stephen Wheeler poured in 25 and 20 points, respectively. Dwyer
grabbed 12 boards and Wheeler finished with 11 rebounds to provide
the Cardinals with a slight rebounding edge.
Salisbury returns to action at home on Valentine's Day against
Marymount. The Sea Gulls are looking to gain some momentum as they
head toward the postseason.
