SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University
women's basketball team won its final regular-season home game,
75-66, against Marymount University on senior night for SU in a
Capital Athletic Conference showdown at the Maggs Center.
The Sea Gull honorees stepped up on their big night as forwards
Jessica Mills (20 points, seven rebounds),
Meghan Klug (15 points) and point guard
Jenna Peters (nine points, six assists) combined
for 44 of the team's 75 points. Klug shot 6-of-8 (.750) from the
field in only 18 minutes of work.
Salisbury (14-10, 8-6 CAC) saw its first lead come at, 12-10, with
16 minutes left in the first half and never trailed the rest of the
game. The Gulls went into half up seven, 35-28.
SU went up as much as 15 points in the second half and withstood a
run by MMU (15-9, 9-4 CAC) that cut the Sea Gull lead to one with
four minutes to go. Salisbury forward Marissa
Manzo answered immediately with two of her 10 points.
Junior Meghan Phillips (15 points, seven rebounds)
followed with a three-pointer off a Jessica Mills steal to put her
team up six.
Marymount was led by a double-double from forward junior Stephanie
Witko who had 15 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman Terell White also
contributed a team-high 19 points.
Salisbury is currently in sole possession of fourth place in the
CAC and awaits seeding for the conference tournament. Marymount
still is in second-place in the conference with one game to play
this weekend against Gallaudet.
