SALISBURY, Md. - A short rain delay held up the
start of the 2007 Salisbury University women's lacrosse season but
once the storm passed blue skies and strong winds prevailed an the
Sea Gulls kicked open their first game with a 19-5 thrashing of
Christopher Newport University on Thursday afternoon.
Junior Sue Ackermann passed out seven assists
and tacked on a goal for her game-high eight point performance.
Sophomore Robyn Bishop led all-scorers with four
goals. Seniors Stephanie Shores, Katie
Simmons and Ani Khatchatoorian netted
three goals apiece in the 14-point victory.
Seventh-ranked Salisbury (1-0) scored the game's first seven
goals and took a 12-2 lead into halftime. In the second half the
Gulls outscored the Captains 7-3.
Freshman goalie Erin Will (1-0) made her first
collegiate start and had three saves in 45 minutes of work to earn
the win.
Christopher Newport (0-1) was led by senior Kristen Conques (two
goals), who scored both of her marks in the first half.
Salisbury will return to action this Saturday, February 24, when
they travel to Ashland, Va., to face Randolph-Macon.
