SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University
women's basketball team posted an impressive victory Saturday
evening over Capital Athletic Conference opponent Gallaudet
University, 87-25, in front of a crowd of 250 on alumni night at
Maggs Center. The Sea Gull defense held the Bison to 19 percent
shooting from the field and created 35 turnovers which resulted in
45 Salisbury points.
Salisbury (12-8, 6-4 CAC) dominated Gallaudet (3-16, 0-9 CAC) in
almost every statistical category with the biggest disparity coming
in bench points (54-5). The Sea Gull bench was led by freshman
Janay Johnson (14 points) and Rachel
Downes (11 points) who shot a combined 10-of-13 from the
field.
The Gulls also received a double-digit effort from senior
Meghan Klug who chipped in 14 points in 21
minutes. Salisbury had 14 of 15 players score at least one point in
the biggest victory of the season. Senior point guard Jenna
Peters contributed a game-high six assists.
SU jumped out to a 6-0 lead and never looked back going in at
halftime up 55-13. The victory improved Salisbury to 6-4 in
conference where they are currently in fourth place tied with
Catholic.
Gallaudet was powered by senior Tamijo Foronda who had nine
points and five rebounds.
Salisbury will try to extend its winning streak to three when it
hits the road at No. 17, conference front-runner, Mary Washington
on February 6th at 6:00 p.m.
