FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Four different University
of Mary Washington women's basketball players scored in
double-figures as the No. 14 Eagles defeated visiting Salisbury
University, 72-51, on Tuesday evening in a Capital Athletic
Conference game.
Mary Washington (19-2, 9-1 CAC) increased its consecutive
winning streak to 15 games as the Eagles continue to hold onto
first-place in the CAC. Center Liz Hickey led the Eagles with 13
points followed by Kaitie Clarkin (12 points), Sarah Flanagan (11
points) and Amanda Bates (10 points).
Salisbury senior Jessica Mills led all scorers
with 24 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds, one shy of a
double-double. Fellow senior Meghan Klug was the
other Sea Gull (12-9, 6-5 CAC) to post double figures with 10
points.
The Sea Gulls led in the first few minutes of the game before
the Eagles took the lead for good at the 12:44 mark in the first
half. UMW went into halftime up 33-18 and increased its lead in the
second half to as much as 26 points with less then five minutes
left in the game.
Salisbury drops to fifth place in the CAC and will turn around
and host St. Mary's College (Md.) on Thursday, February 8, at the
Maggs Center. The game will tip-off at 5:30 p.m.
