SALISBURY, Md. - Senior Ryan
DeRose showed Sunday afternoon against visiting Ohio
Wesleyan University why he is called the faceoff specialist for the
Salisbury University men's lacrosse team. DeRose won 13-of-15
faceoff attempts and teammate Ryan Brown won
10-of-12 as the Sea Gulls won an astounding 26-of-30 against the
Battling Bishops. SU controlled the game en route to the 21-5
victory.
Salisbury (6-0) scored the game's first 12 goals and led 14-1 at
the half against non-conference opponent Ohio Wesleyan (2-2). The
Sea Gulls had 11 different goal scorers on the day. The first
attack line of Matt Hickman (four goals, one
assist), Greg Titus (three goals, two assists) and
Eric Bishop (three goals, two assists) combined
for 15 points. Senior midfielder Matt Dasinger
scored three goals and junior Brett Yoder (three
assists) upped his team lead in assists to 11.
The Sea Gulls outshot the Battling Bishops 51-20 and scooped up
62 groundballs to OWU's 31. Salisbury's defense caused 19 of the 36
OWU turnovers and forced 15 failed clears.
OWU was led by junior Chris Eccles (three goals, two assists)
who scored all three of his goals in the second half. Freshman Rob
Young (two goals, one assist) scored OWU's first goal at the 6:31
mark in the second quarter on a man-up opportunity. OWU goalie Ryan
Perone made 16 saves in the loss.
The Sea Gulls now lead the series with the Battling Bishops
21-6. SU has won 52 straight regular-season games and 48
consecutive at home.
Salisbury will next be in action at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, March
14, home against Widener University.
