SALISBURY, Md. - For two quarters Denison
University played even with top-ranked Salisbury University but the
Sea Gulls outscored the Big Red 12-3 in the first and fourth
quarters combined to pull away with a 17-8 men's lacrosse victory
on a blustery Sunday afternoon at Sea Gull Stadium.
Salisbury junior Matt Hickman (four goals, two
assists) scored three of his four goals in the fourth quarter as
the Sea Gulls outscored the Big Red 7-1. Fellow junior attackman
Greg Titus (four goals, one assist) scored two of
his four goals in the fourth as well. Hickman has a team best 34
goals on the season through eight games.
Salisbury (8-0) trailed 2-1 midway through the first quarter to
Denison (3-2) before four different Sea Gulls found the back of the
net to regain the lead, 5-2.
The two teams traded goals in the second quarter as the Gulls
went into the half up 7-4.
Salisbury has now won 50 straight games at Sea Gull Stadium and
54 consecutive regular-season games.
SU sophomore Kylor Berkman (two goals, three
assists) and junior Brett Yoder (three assists)
both passed out three assists in the win. They are tied for the
team lead in assists with 16.
Denison received two goals apiece from Rick MacKessy (two goals,
two assists), Dan Maude (two goals, one assist) and Brady Burton
(two goals).
Salisbury goalie Max Zarchin made 10 saves in
50 minutes of work to earn his eighth win on the season.
Salisbury will turn around and host Hood College tomorrow
(Monday, March 19) at Sea Gull Stadium at 4:30 p.m. The game was
slated to be played on the road in Frederick, Md., but got moved to
Salisbury due to poor field conditions because of snow and ice.
