Box Score SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University
softball team had eight players (three freshmen, two sophomores,
one junior, two seniors) who earned a spot on the 2007 Capital
Athletic Conference Softball All-Conference Team. Freshman
Kelly Waskewicz (Olney, Md.) was
named the 2007 CAC Player and Rookie of the Year as well as All-CAC
shortstop.
Waskewicz leads the team in eight offensive categories (through
April 24); runs (48), hits (54), doubles (12), home runs (15), RBIs
(46), total bases (117), slugging percentage (.944), stolen bases
(5) and ties for the lead with three triples.
The Sea Gulls had seven players who earned first team honors
along with freshman Ali Ritter (Belvidere,
N.J.), who received an at-large selection. Ritter leads SU
with a .500 (39-for-78) batting average and was named the CAC
Player of the Week and ECAC South Region Player of the Week on
April 23.
Senior co-captains Nichole Fuqua
(Rockville, Md.) and Tee Dronenburg
(Columbia, Md.) were named to the first team at second
base and catcher, respectively. Both Fuqua and Dronenburg were 2005
All-CAC at-large selections. Fuqua, a member of the 2004 All-CAC
first team as a second baseman, is batting .433 with 52 hits, five
home runs and 38 RBIs. This is the third year in a row that
Dronenburg has been named to the first team. She has a team-high
six sacrifice bunts and is batting .326 with 25 RBIs.
First baseman Stacey Malarkey
(Taneytown, Md.) and pitcher Stacy
Davis (Westminster, Md.) are the two
sophomore selections for the Sea Gulls. Marlarkey was named to the
All-CAC first team outfield last season. She is batting .366 with
seven doubles, three triples, nine home runs and 37 RBIs. Davis
sports a 13-2 record a 1.99 ERA with 76 strikeouts and nine
complete games. She has allowed a stingy .228 opponents batting
average in 20 appearances.
The lone junior for Salisbury is center fielder Kurisha
Hoffman (Lutherville, Md.) who is batting
.438 with eight doubles, five home runs, and 26 RBIs. She has
started in every game that she had played in.
The final selection for the Gulls was freshman outfielder
Jen Cahall (Elkton, Md.) who is
third on the team in home runs with six and fourth on the team in
RBIs with 32.
