SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Sea Gulls dropped a tough
five-set volleyball match to in-state rival Frostburg State
University on Sunday at the Garnet Classic at Swarthmore College.
Salisbury University led 2-1 against the Bobcats but eventually
lost 30-24, 26-30, 30-28, 26-30, 7-15 in the semifinals on Day Two
of the tournament.
Junior Stacey Krebs had 17 kills on 77 attempts
and made 18 digs to pace the Sea Gulls against FSU. Sophomore
Nicole Massarelli was second in kills with 16 and
added four service aces, four digs and two block assists. Fellow
sophomore Gabby Long made 34 digs and junior
Jaime Marzocchi had a team-high 48 assists to go
along with her 11 digs and four kills.
Salisbury (8-5) rebounded in its second match of the day with a
3-0 sweep against Rutgers-Newark. The Sea Gulls made quick work
against their opponent as they won 30-10, 30-6, 30-11. Krebs had
eight kills and six digs while Marzocchi made 21 assists. Long had
seven service aces, two digs and two kills and freshman middle
hitter Kathleen Cinelli recorded seven kills in
the win.
The Sea Gulls travel up Rt. 13 on Wednesday, September 19, to
face rival Wesley College for a 7 p.m. Capital Athletic Conference
match. Salisbury will make its home debut on Friday, September 21,
vs. Johns Hopkins at 4 p.m. in the Maggs Center.
