WASHINGTON, D.C. - Gallaudet
University handed Salisbury University its 11th straight men's
basketball loss on Saturday afternoon as the Bison won the Capital
Athletic Conference game, 82-77, in Washington, D.C.
The Sea Gulls (2-12, 0-5 CAC) trailed 44-36 at halftime but
began the second half on a 14-0 run to take a 50-44 lead with 16:33
left in the game. Gallaudet (2-11, 2-4 CAC) outscored Salisbury,
38-27, the rest of the game.
Salisbury was led by Greg Palmer's 23 points
and eight rebounds. The sophomore scored 16 points in the second
half as he shot 5-of-11 from three-point range for the game. Senior
co-captains Jonas Vaitkus (18 points, seven
rebounds) and Gary Ward (16 points, two steals)
reached double figures along with junior Brandon
Abney (15 points, four rebounds, three assists).
SU outscored Gallaudet in the paint, 32-16, as the maroon and
gold received 17 points from their bench. The Bison capitalized on
the 21 Sea Gull turnovers as Gallaudet scored 28 points off of
them. Both teams shots around 47 percent from the field for the
game.
Gallaudet was paced by Lance Gonzalez (22 points, four assists)
and Jon Mowl (20 points, six rebounds. The Bison shot 11-of-20 (55
percent) from three-point range compared to Salisbury's 32 percent
(8-of-25) from outside.
Salisbury will next be in action on Wednesday, January 16, with
a road trip to Villa Julie College for an 8 p.m. conference game.
