NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Salisbury University
women's soccer team fell 2-0 to Christopher Newport University
in a non-conference road game on Wednesday evening.
Salisbury (4-3-3) put three shots on goal in the contest but
could not manage to get the ball past CNU goalie Dineen Sampson
(three saves). The Gulls had six corner
kick opportunities but failed to capitalize on those
chances.
Freshman Samantha Ondrejcak led the maroon and
gold with two shots on goal while junior defender Hillary
Grove placed one shot on goal for SU. Sea Gull goalie
Gena Goodson recorded one save in 90 minutes of
work in the net.
The Gulls struggled to handle Christopher Newport (6-4-1)
non-starter Caitlin Maat, who beat the Sea Gulls for a goal and an
assist. Maat fed teammate Megan Richard a pass with five minutes
left to play in the first half as the Captains led 1-0 at the
break. In the second half, Matt took a pass from Jenn Campbell to
score CNU's second goal with 15 minutes to play in the game.
The maroon and gold will travel to Fredericksburg, Va., this
Saturday, October 4, to take on the University of Mary Washington.
The Capital Athletic Conference game is slated to begin
at 1 p.m.
